the tower
the tower of the historical heritage of mankind, hidden in the rustle of pages of books and notes in the margins. the library has had a deep philosophical value since ancient times. like the library itself, in its essence it is a storehouse of knowledge and experience, but it is also a place for exchanging opinions and discussions, a place for learning, for talking with one’s consciousness and solitude. people come to the library to get to know themselves and others and to feel the silence enclosed between the bookshelves.
the concept of the tower is a metaphor for the human desire to discover a sacred knowledge. being the central and connecting element of the entire library, closed behind glass walls, the tower creates its own silence inside. an individual can find solace by immersing himself in the infinity of bookshelves stretching over four floors of the library. when standing on the top floor and looking down, it may seem that the tower is an abyss where no one has ever set foot.
composition
the library is located in the very center of the city, in the dust and noise of cars, and is only slightly sheltered from the main roads behind the city hall square. from opposite sides of the building there is a view of both the public center of the city, as well as a modest river and an art museum in the far part of the site. based on this, the functions  in the library are divided into a “loud” and “quiet” sides, connected with a central book tower. the loud part, overlooking the square and inviting visitors to visit the library, includes auditoriums, the library, includes auditoriums, the main reading room, a children’s library, an exhibition space and meeting rooms. while the quiet side, turned away from noisy traffic, contains a quiet reading room, a cafe and a bookstore. from the roof of the building, where the street terrace is located, there is a panoramic view of the city.
materialization and atmosphere
the wooden facade around the building carefully shelters the library from the modern city, creating a visual and physical barrier between the endless bustle of the city center and the intimate relationship between a person and a book. the adaptable facade system protects a reader from direct sunlight interaction and creates a comfortable, slightly shaded light palette in public places and reading rooms. as the wooden vertical elements of the facade imitate the trunks of trees in the forest, so the shadows created by them resemble the shadows on a glade of a sparse forest. the interior of the library consists of a gentle relationship of rough, cold structural concrete and warm wood - when passing through the main hall and entering into direct interaction with the book tower, the visitor begins a journey into a intricate way of thinking. some corners of the library have lowered ceilings made of wooden panels, which create a more intimate mood. at the same time, spacious auditoriums and reading rooms filled with gray concrete and surrounded by glass facades are aimed at active interaction of people with each other.
located in the very center of the city, the library invites everyone to see the value in communicating with other people to exchange experiences and immerse themselves in the unknown knowledge of mankind, finding harmony in the subtle relationships between material, sensations, feelings, conversations and emotions.
